Watty College D-Teams

One of the core values of WFBC and of our college ministry is discipleship: intentionally making whole-hearted followers of Jesus Christ. We do our best to practice the philosophy of the apostle Paul, who wrote to Timothy, his “son in the faith:”
“The things you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to faithful men who will teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2).
Discipleship produces a chain of influence: Paul made a spiritual investment in the life of Timothy, who then “entrusted” that investment in the lives of others, who then taught others, etc. Jesus was the first who modeled this lifestyle when He invested in His 12 disciples for 3 years, and then sent them out to make disciples themselves. It is a simple, yet extremely powerful, strategy that Christ gave us to reach the entire world with His gospel!
One way the WFBC college ministry participates in this calling is through our d-teams (discipleship teams). Here is everything you need to know about them:

What is a WFBC d-team? It is a small group of 2+ same-gender students (no co-ed) that meets weekly to study the Bible, pray, and develop community. The goal of these groups is to invest in students’ relationships with Christ in a small group context. The hope is that the members will eventually split up and disciple others.

Elements of a D-team meeting:

1.     The Gospel: The gospel of Jesus Christ & His grace are clearly & continually talked about in our d-teams.

2.     The Bible: The Bible is the inerrant, living Word of God. It is the primary way we can know God & be conformed into His image. A WFBC d-team does not exist without it!

3.     Prayer: Humbly talking with God (praying through Scripture, for one another, with one another, etc.) is necessary for a healthy d-team.

4.     Accountability: Our d-team leaders seek to provide a safe place for transparency, challenge & encouragement so that we can fight sin together & “spur one another on to love & good deeds” (Hebrews 10).

5.     Life-on-life: God created us in His image, which includes being relational. By doing life together (not just in your scheduled d-team meeting) we learn how the gospel affects our daily lives (eating dinner together, having movie nights, going to football games, etc.).

6.     Multiplication: in each d-team there is an element of equipping members for ministry themselves- the hope is that through your d-team you would be prepared & ready to make disciples, both during your time in college and after you graduate!

Who leads the d-teams?  We have some of the greatest leaders around! We have a leadership team of college students, young adults, dads & moms from our church family who love Jesus and love investing in students. These people are pumped about growing with you this year!

When & where do they meet? We have different d-teams meeting every weekday (some at night, some in the morning). They are held in leaders’ homes, apartments & dorms. We will help connect you to a time that works best with your schedule.

When do they start? D-teams start at the end of August.

How can I join one? Contact Emily@watkinsville.org or click here .  You can also find one of our leaders before or after the Sunday 11:30am service

We would love for you to prayerfully consider joining one of our d-teams. We look forward to growing with you this year in our love for Jesus and for His kingdom!

MOVING DAY

If you were in College Bible Study Sunday then you heard the BIG news.  We’re moving! That’s right we’re moving from the basement at 10:15 to the Life Building at 11:30 on Sunday Mornings.

WHY?
  • Over the past few years God has been very good to us.  We’ve seen our ministry grow from around 80 students gathered in the basement to well over 300 crammed into a room that comfortably seats 250.
  • This summer Pastor Carlos and I began to talk about possibilities for us growing and it became clear that it was time to try something new.   Since we’ve outgrown our space, the only place large enough on the property that allows us to grow numerically is the Life Building.  So after a lot of prayer and discussion the pastors and the deacons decided we would use the 11:30 service as a way to accommodate our growth and reach more students.
  • It also gives us an opportunity to serve in the life of our church in various ministries.
  • And lastly- this is an AWESOME opportunity for our college ministry to reach even more students with the gospel.

What will it look like?
  • We will still have the same great Bible teaching team with a few incredible additions.
  • We will open by being led in worship by our amazing music team.
  • Pastor Carlos and Carla will be in the room each Sunday meeting and interacting with students.
  • Pastor Carlos will occasionally be on the teaching team.
  • We’ll be working through Romans this fall.

When?
  • Our first official day is August 17th at 11:30 in the Life building.
  • Join us at 11:00 on the grass courtyard for a pre-service “tailgate” where you can meet other students and maybe grab a donut and some coffee.

So let me recap:
God has been very good to our ministry as we have sought to be faithful in teaching the scriptures and calling students to radical obedience as we lift up the beauty of the gospel in the person of Jesus.  Because of this we have grown both spiritually and numerically.  The leadership in our church has seen this as an opportunity to trust us with the 11:30 worship hour in an attempt to push the gospel further onto the campuses in our area and literally around the globe.  I can’t stress enough that this is an AWESOME opportunity for us and I believe it will lead to even greater things for our ministry in the days ahead.

By His Grace and For His Glory,
Pastor Vic
